Hey there, back again and while I have been writing, I’ve given some time to the other aspects of writing. What is there besides writing???
Lots π I’ve got a serial I’ve been working on and it’s getting picked up. Gonna be more complex than anything else I’ve published and it’s going to require a lot of other skills in order to promote it well. I will keep you up to date when things start happening, but I’m doing research on websites, marketing, and social media–go figure π
I have joined Twitter full force and you can find me there: @CraigLCrawford and say hi. I’m on Facebook as well, but I don’t spend as much time there. That has ended up being more for staying in touch with people I know on a personal level as opposed to writing. But I have been enjoying Twitter and have been immersing in the writer’s community–there are some fun and smart people there.
Research. Yes, I’m learning about website design, instructional design and all those sorts of things in order to prepare for this next set of stories. I’m actually doing a lot of prep and learning about the planning side of things instead of just jumping in and making it up as I go. Trust me, it’s going to be fun π π π You’ll see.
Then there’s the marketing angle. How to get the word out about your stories, finding your market and your audience. It’s going to take more work because as most writer’s know, it’s a lot harder and a lot more complicated than just getting a book published and sold on Amazon. Turns out that’s pretty easy. The hard is spreading the word.
I’m getting in depth with books, tips from friends and research in general. I’ll be at it for the next several months to get a game plan together.
How am I finding time to write amidst all that, you ask? I am. When a story hits I make room for it and get it down. I’ll take a break from this stuff to knock out a story, and I’ve written two in the last two weeks. It’s good.
The key is to balance the work and the creative. At present, I’m there, and I’m sure I’ll have those “shut down” days where I just have to walk away, but for now, it’s working, so I’m just running with it.
I’m going to go finish up a story and then get some sleep–I’ve been running hard the last few weeks and rest is key :). Keep the faith and keep at your own craft!
We’ll talk soon π
