Hey, it’s been a bit. And that’s how it happens. When you’re an Indie author, it’s all you and sometimes no matter how much you try to stay on top of things, stuff comes up.
So what happened to me? My mom died a few weeks back. As it should, it put everything on hold, delayed the usual and changed my schedule.
She was a good lady. Judy Whetstine. She gave me my love of horror, inspired me to write and to immerse in creative things. She was a creative too. Not in writing but she dabbled in all kinds of things. I do remember she used to use acrylics and paint t-shirts for craft shows–things like Spiderman, Godzilla, Dracula. It was her thing for a while. She was also good at darts and…liked all things creepy.
So, this tribute goes out to her. Rest well, you’ve earned it. And until I meet up with you again, have a Guinness and kick back and relax 🙂
For writing related…this is going to happen to you too. It may not be a death in the family, but it could be the birth of a baby, helping out relatives or friends, getting through some trauma or even going on a much deserved vacation. It happens. It’s part of life too.
And these forced breaks should be there.
It’s the other side of life that you have to keep invested in. I firmly believe you have to keep one foot in the real world and one in the writing world to stay fresh. To keep your creative side healthy. Yeah, I know–you have to keep creating new stories, keep yourself in the authorial eye…
Sometimes you have to let life hand you a leave of absence too. It’s okay. Honest. A couple of my friends are only laughing because to them, I’m always doing something writing related. They’d be jabbing me in the rib asking when I was going to take my own advice 🙂
I do. Trust me. They just don’t see it all the time.
Honestly, I sit and think about how nice it would be if I didn’t have to go to my day job and could devote more of my time to writing, but really, if I take a real look at it…it’s the other side of life that keeps me coming back to this gig. It’s the daily breaths away from writing that keep me hungry to get back to writing.
Truth.
So, take your breaks when they knock. I know. You need to get that novel finished or get that newsletter typed–crap, I have one due to ;).
Just remember part of this life is about living too. There are fun things going on all around you and you should remember to take part in some of them. Keeps life fresh and invigorating. Might even give you an idea for that next story too…
